Chabon is an artist. His execution of words is startling, compelling, fresh. The downsides: The plot is a bit meandering. 150 pages in, I was still wondering when it would really get started. Chapters of it feel more like a meditation than a story- though the plot does pick up for the last third (albeit somewhat unbelievably.) Still, just studying the author's use of language was enough to keep me hooked, highlighter in hand, dumbfounded that a person of such talent could exist.
