There are two things I particularly like about the Miles books. First, I love Miles's character because he never retreats. His response to ending up in the thick of things is always to go forward as fast as possible. And second, Bujold always manages to move the plot via action--not gunfights or battles necessarily, but by someone acting. Even when you think you know inevitably what's going to happen, the plot can be opened up again in an instant by Miles or Ivan or the unknown enemy taing action. Love that.
