One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich

A cold and harrowing account like this makes the history a bit more palatable; what is a very dismal moment for humanity translates into a very efficient lesson in history and human rights. Solzhenitsyn (sp) is economical in his analysis, and thus doesn't run the risk of overloading readers with either history or emotion.
