As a fusion of detective fiction and erotic fiction, this novel is definitely successful. The framework in which the plot line for this presents itself is very much suited to the story. It's BDSM themed, but not overly shocking for me. Most things are left to the imagination, which is suitable for the genre. Otherwise they are being used as a narrative device to elicit a particular reaction. I can see why it gets the comparisons it does as far as its relation to other novels in the genre (e.g. Story of O). In a lot of ways it was predictable, but in many ways it wasn't. The circumstances of the ending were something I didn't guess at all. I was impressed by the way the protagonist figured out who the killer was, even though those circumstances felt a bit planned. Overall, it's a decently written, well paced detective novel that happens to have some BDSM thrown in. If you're into that stuff, you'd enjoy this one.
