I loved this book. Gripping from start to finish. I'll admit I studied this period at school and then again at university in some depth, so I'm familiar with the story, the characters. But I don't think you have to be, to find it a fascinating portrait of a turbulent period of English history. It can be difficult when studying history to remove a sense of hindsight, to look at events as not necessarily inevitable - the divorce from Katherine of Aragon, the fall of Wolsey, for example. But reading this book puts a fresh take on all of that - and slows the action down bringing the people to life. I look forward to the sequel.
