I'd give this a five star rating but I'm trying to reduce my grade inflation and there isn't a 4.5 star rating option.

What do you do when you come out of a long relationship at the tail end of your breeding years? How do you find purpose in your life as you decouple and age? How do you appreciate and value your past if your future is not on the same track? how much does a person's identity stem from what they like? How much from what they accomplish?

I'd like this book even if I weren't at a place in my life where I need to answer those questions myself, because Hornby writes well about living and art. There's a good interview with him on The Sound Of Young America from Dec 09 or so that provides a good accompanyment.

Looking at other reviews, I think it's interesting that some (those that didn't like it, generally) thought the book was about the Hornby stock character of the obsessive fan boy. I thought it was about the fanboy's significant other who sees life outside that lifestyle.
