I've always had an interest in the Yankee whaling industry, having grown up on Long-Island sound. The thought fascinated me that for a brief few decades, men from a very few, small coastal towns in southern New England travelled, hunted, and explored the world over (literally) in search of whales.

This book, although intended for young adults, is a wonderful resource on the subject, with many maps, diagrams, and pictures of relics that bring to life this mostly forgotten (but for Herman Melville) industry.

I had a copy as a child. I only remembered a couple of years ago, and I scoured my parents' house for it, but to no avail. Finally, after finding a middle-school report I wrote on whaling, I found the name of the book and was able to order a used copy.
