recommended for: Hoffman fans/literary lovers/people who like bizarre plots

This is by far the best book by Hoffman that I've read to date. Told in first person, the point of view doesn't change, making it easy to read but also engrossing as your able to get into the mind of the main character.

As a young girl, the narrator wished for her mother to disappear. When the wish came true, her life begin to follow a pattern, one of wishes fulfilled no matter how strange or disasterous. As an adult, she wishes to be struck by lightening, and when this wish comes true, her life is turned upside down. Already cold emotionally, she know sees herself as the Ice Queen, a creature physically cold from her experience to go with her emotional isolation. Her new inability to see the color red only furthers this transition into coldness.

When she hears of a man they call Lazarus at one of her support group meetings, she goes in search of him, interested in finding the one man who's already been through death and back and cannot be killed with a wish. She finds a man wh...more

414044 Wow, really well said. You should be a professional book reviewer, your really good at this! I'm glad you could appreciate the story like I did. Wasn't the ending beautiful? I cried my eyes out when I read it. I'm so happy to hear you enjoyed it as much as I did!

193580 Thanks! Yes, I cried and cried. I didn't think I was going to, but the way she wrote it made it so easy to get a full mental picture and it was just heartbreaking! Glad you liked my review, it was one of the few I actually took my time with.
