This book was so surprising to me! I find that I am frequently disappointed in the YA books at the middle school library I volunteer at. This book is weighty...it has real and important life issues that all people should consider. I thought that the pacing of the story felt a little bit strange - I'm not sure why. However, it is a very engaging story and the characters are pretty well-rounded. Some are clearly just evil, but others are full of shades of gray, just like so many us. I definitely want to read the sequel.
