Chances are this book is not what you're expecting. It wasn't what I was expecting. Basically the story of two people who both want to be the submissive partner in their relationship, and what happens when our heroine reluctantly takes on the dominant role.

There's a lot of discussion about the symbolism of wearing animal fur (fur = power) and what today we think of as masochism doesn't really exist in the text - there's more emphasis on a man being submissive to a woman (shocking!) than enjoying pain. And it makes a strange nod toward feminism at the very end.

Glad I read it, but not sure I'd ever re-read.
