liked it
Read in November, 2007

Finally finished! This book never captured me, but I was determined to complete it. For one thing, Doris Lessing won the 2007 Nobel Prize in Literature, so I wanted to know more about her.
I also liked the premise. The main character keeps four different journals- one for each aspect of her life, and in the end she recognizes that this division of life is driving her mad, so she abandons the four and tries to achieve sanity by bringing everything together into one "Golden Notebook."
Aside from the idea of the notebooks, I was interested in the way the main character dealt with her belief and membership in, as well as her hesitancies with, the communist party.
I'm glad I read it, but I'm more glad to be done with it.
