This story is narrated by an "angel" but the angel doesn't always know what to do or what exactly he/she (he for describing purposes here) should be doing. He watches over the inhabitants of a small Italian town, and makes friends with Zola, a zany little girl who can see him. Zola has all kinds of suggestions for things Angel should do. And with Angel's help, orphan children are taken in and a town comes together.

Angel's understanding of "people" was unique and quite frankly adorable!!! The actual misunderstood words and objects were delightful in their intended/unintended meanings and combinations.

This book also reminded me just a little of Gossamer by Lois Lowry.
