This was the best classic I have ever read. It edged out A Seperate Peace. I think the reason I enjoyed reading this book so much was because its lessons are universal and apply to every society, not just American society during times of segregation.
My favorite line of any book I have read was what Atticus Finch told Scout about not knowing anyone until you have worn his shoes and walked around in them. I actually apply that to my relationships today. It's profound and true.
Scout and Jem's relationship made me want a sister. The way Harper Lee shows a family in timult because of the natural stages of youth and just being opposite genders was something I can relate to having grown up with close female cousins.
Atticus was by far the moral hero whom readers can emulate. I always thought that Atticus is a perfect model of a father, and if we can learn anything at all from fiction, it's that we can aspire to be like Lee's Atticus although living up to a man with such integ...more
