There is no writer whose ideas engage me quite as much as Kundera. The novel I'm working on now could be seen as a reply to the first four pages of Ignorance. On the bottom of the fourth page Kundera takes pity on immortal Calypso, spurned captor of Odysseus; I'd very much like to write a novel about that domestic tragedy. And so on. This is a reread; a chance to peek at the origins of the themes I've been mulling over for the past few years.
