I read a review that labeled Will Tweedy as a mixture of Huck Finn and Holden Caulfield and I can't think of a better comparison. (I would add that I think this book also has a similar feel to that of The Ladies Auxiliary.)

Very charming story line, beautifully developed characters and outrageously funny dialogue. My favorite:

(Will Tweedy has just been caught kissing the mill girl, Lightfoot.)
"Just then God spoke out loud in the voice of Miss Alice Ann. 'Will Tweedy, you ought to be ashamed!' said God. I looked up and there He stood in a pink and white poky-dot dress, pointing His plump forefinger at us (pg. 246)."
