Easily the most unique novel I've ever read. I was very much impressed with Mitchell's ability to come at each narrative from a completely different angle. Each sub-story reads like it should have been written by a different author. The vaguely surreal nature of the novel is reminiscent of Haruki Murakami, and just about as fun. Yet, unlike the Murakami I've read, Mitchell managed to give substance to that underlying sense of something magical being behind the scenes. Rather than just getting off of a rollercoaster, finishing this book is like getting off of a roller coaster and realizing that you are somehow not in the same amusement park it started in.

In short: This book is a grandly fun and creative idea that is actually well-executed enough to work.
