Dune remains a favorite. It is easy to see why it became a classic. In the past, I haven't even been able to finish the first sequel, but I'm going to give it another try.

2017: This was a great choice for reading with the kids.

Steve I'm glad to see someone else say this. I love Dune, and have reread it a number of times. The sequels, however, have never captured me. It's to be expected, I suppose, when different books in a series are written by different authors. However, I found it curious that I loved Dune so much, and found little enjoyment in Herbert's other books. Generally, when I find a book I love, I devour everything that author has written, even the more obscure works, and feel enriched by pursuing their work in this way. With Herbert, however, Dune was a five-star book, and his other work was indifferent to me.
