Bad Things Happen, by Harry Dolan, b-plus, narrated by Erik Davies, produced by Penguin Audio, downloaded from audible.com.

This story is about the publisher of a mystery short story magazine, Gray Streets. Tom Kristoll publishes stories of up and coming mystery authors, and many of these stories end up being enlarged into best-selling novels for the writers. David Loogan is a man trying to live an anonymous life but he becomes friends with Kristoll and is drawn into his web of intrigue. He also begins an affair with Tom’s wife, Laura. First, Tom asks him to buy the appropriate gardening tools and help him bury a body. Then, Tom turns up dead and thrown out of his office window. Various other people with connections to Tom turn up dead. This is a mystery writer’s mystery-taking all possible puzzle pieces and consistently reshuffling them to come up with another answer. Quite good descriptions of Ann Arbor where I went to graduate school. .
