A very good introduction to Hemingway, probably the book I would tell non-Hemingway explorers to begin with. It gives an excellent sample of his different pallettes and one particular Africa story is such a twist and sudden ending that it I found it an instant reread. If a reader delves in this collection and doesn't find it interesting they can skip to another story, by then if Hemingway's style has not captured your tastes then you can write off any more of his works as they do not deviate from this collection much. I would harken anyone not liking his works to sample this collection of stories but Hemingway is like a great cigar, too many will turn you off, they are strong, bold and take time to savour. Hemingway creates a world that he knew, demanded his readers travel along with a riding whip, and command life like a bullfighter in contol of his dangerous counterpart. I have reread many stories from this book.
