Jenna's review
The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Díaz
After all the liberally-sprinkled Spanish, I think I only absorbed "hermano" and "tia." I paused every page or so and thought, "Should I just go to an English-Spanish site and plug these sentences in?" or "Am I missing something not knowing the Spanish?" I loved Drown and loved reading Oscar Wao. The footnotes were more entertaining that David Foster Wallace-y. The ending wasn't what I was hoping for, but 15 not-so-great pages didn't ruin the novel's overall positive impact. Remembered that I'd read a chapter (Lola's story) excerpted in the Spring Fiction New Yorker and absolutely loved it. So glad I got to read more about this world.
