The novel is well-written, in that you find yourself needing to know what happens next. The opening miracle of the spring, and the twisted tale of the site of St. Elizabeth's, work to draw you in and push you forward into the novel. The simple, straightforward truths and complex, convoluted meanings behind the truths are poignantly revealed in such lines as "To be truly brave, I believe a person has to be more than a little stupid."
