This book has some huge advantages over similar books, mainly that you can make the (70!) patterns in any yarn at any gauge. Disadvantages, it doesn't cover some newer toe-up techniques, and it doesn't have the big fancypants motifs that some prefer. I think of it as a stitch dictionary specific for socks, it's one of my most-used knitting books.
