Our Dumb Century: The Onion Presents 100 Years of Headlines from America's Finest News Source by Editors of The Onion
I recall an Onion article just after the 2000 election jokingly talking about how Bush was going to reverse the clinton years and pick up where his father left off. It talked about making tax refunds, starting a new war in Iraq, and running the economy down. It's rather frightening to think about it coming to the end of two terms. The world is a strange place; I'm surprised it's still here.
My favorite headline in OUR DUMB CENTURY is about the TITANIC:WORLD'S LARGEST METAPHOR HITS ICEBERG.
I wonder if some of THE ONION's staff wound up writing for THE DAILY SHOW and THE COLBERT REPORT. THE ONION ushered in a golden age of political humor. (I refuse to give Bush ALL the credit.)
The entire moon landing article is ridiculous. I used to read the Onion every day in class, as it was free all over campus. That plus the Sudoku and Crossword in our school paper kept me from utter boredom many a day.
My favorite is still "Aging Gen Xer Doesn't Find Bad Movies Funny Anymore," but I LOVED the point-counter-point (not sure if it was in this collection): "Nigeria is rich in cultural heritage" vs. "Get me out of this goddamn stinking hell hole."
