I *loved* this book! I was hooked from page one! Every now and then you pick up a book and read a few paragraphs and you just KNOW you're going to like it. That's how it was for me with this book.

I loved the style of writing, the flow of the story, and the characters. It's exceptionallly well researched as well, which is very important to me when reading a historical novel. Josephine Bonaparte became a friend, someone I cared about. As it's written in diary format, you know her deepest, darkest secrets and feelings. I couldn't wait to read what happened to her next!

I also learned more about the French Revolution than I ever learned in school (although...in school I wasn't *quite* as interested). It was horrible, not nearly as romantic and exciting as it seems in 'Les Miserables'. They called it the 'Terror' for good reason.

I've already ordered the second and third novels that are part of this trilogy and can't wait to get them!

Highly recommended to friends and book clubs.
