When I was contemplating how to write my response to this novel I found myself continually dumbfounded by the prospect of writing what I thought about the novel. Maybe that's because I have not let reached a conclusion on the different plot elements and devices Grossman uses to explore the many underlying themes in the book. Or maybe it is the underlying themes that have me confused? Either way I find it difficult to sum up my feelings for the novel in any meaningful articulate way.

In the end, I keep turning the pages and the characters actions provoked outrage or sympathy from my lofty observation post. Any book that makes me care is a book worth reading.
