if there was ever a book that was meant to frustrate ad infinitum, this was it. You begin by reading about reading, which is odd and something I've never encountered in a book before. The short stories cut off abruptly at the moment of highest intrigue. You, as the reader, are a character in this story (something I haven't encountered since those choose your own adventure books). But all of these things are used by Calvino skillfully to his advantage and the cookie-payoff at the end is more worthwhile because of it. What did I learn from this book? Even if everything seems to be turning against you, it might all be for the best in the end.
