I would really give this 3.5 stars...

It was so sad to hear of the circumstances of Lil Loco's life - all of the horrible things that happened to him and all the horrible things he did because of it. This book really provides a window into what gang life is like.

The thing that disappointed me was the writing. There were typos (in English and Spanish) and he repeated phrases MANY times throughout (he constantly talked about alcohol being his water). Also, there were so many things crammed into one story, that I found myself confused and re-reading parts at times. I wish there was a chart of which gangs were affiliated and which were enemies. He referred a lot to streets and neighborhoods - a map with the gang affiliations on it would have been helpful.

While I understand that he didn't receive much education growing up, it did make the book more difficult to read.

Karen I read this book several years ago. It is excellent and quite eye opening. He has a sequel and also there is a book written by one of the girls....
