Maria's review
Father Brown Stories (Penguin Popular Classics) by G.K. Chesterton
Sigh. I'm never going to get through this book. I've been picking it up from time to time over these past eight or nine years, and I'm still only halfway through. Now I picked it up again, and it's just putting me to sleep.
There's nothing *wrong* with these stories. I highly recommend them. The characterisation is exquisite, the language gorgeous, the plots imaginative, but for every story that captivates me, there are three that bore me to tears. It's not the book - I just have problems with the short story genre.

Oh my god, I feel EXACTLY the same way about Father Brown. I have this one volume that I've been trying to get through for at least 15 years, and I'm not exaggerating. I want to like the series. I really really do. But somehow it never quite worked out that way. I don't have a problems with short stories -- I love them -- it's just *these* short stories.
