it was amazing

What I learn from Susanna Clarke is how to tell stories. She is incredible. Even the smallest characters have unique & flawed personalities, even the smallest object turns up later to provide the story's twist, even the main plot lines are handled with subtlety and implication. I'm going to be buying this book ASAP to add to my "reference" library. It'll be one I reread any time I need reminders of what makes storytelling masterful.

So glad, by the way, to meet up with Jonathan Strange and John Uskglass in these stories. Makes me want to read all 800 pages of Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell again.
