This book pulled me into the plot slowly. Once I got into the story, I couldn't put the book down. I thought the book would end differently, but I was not disappointed in the ending. I like the way the book portrayed the main character. I kept thinking of him as one of those people who have the character disorder of being an "incomplete personality." He certainly adapted himself to what ever need suited him, and then he masterfully manipulated those around him. He especially was able to manipulate women while never giving up a bit of himself. He truly is an "unavailable" partner, but his partners never really see that until after he nearly destroys them. I stayed up way too late finishing this book. I then could not sleep thinking about the story. It is not a book that one forgets easily.

This is the second book by Jennifer Haigh that I have read. I highly recommend reading both of her novels.
