it was amazing
bookshelves: children-schapterbooks, nonfiction

Fantastic coverage of the battle over Vicksburg during the American Civil War. It covers not only the battles and dates, but really concentrates on how several people experienced the siege first hand, concentrating mostly on 3 children: Lucy McRae and Willie Lord in Vicksburg, and Frederick Grant (son of Ulysses) with the Union Army. General Grant had to capture Vicksburg for the Union Army to succeed in conquering the South, but the people of Vicksburg were very strong in their support of the Southern cause and were protected by the geography around their town. Did you know that black sharpshooters worked for the Rebs? Lots of cool facts along with a personalized view of the 47 day siege.
