really liked it

Erica and Ron gave this set to Nicholas (thanks guys!) and after he fell in love with Percy Jackson ("better than Harry Potter") I had to try them. We've actually read through #4 and have #5 coming for Christmas (ssshhh don't tell Nicholas) but in the interest of brevity I went with the boxed set.

The books are not as detailed in terms of world-building as Rowling's, but the action is more compelling. Much of the structure of her books (timing of the return to camp, relationship with father figures, triad of friends) is the same (ripped off cough cough) but the Greek pantheon and the associated mythos is enough to differentiate these. Riordan goes DEEP into the stories, including references to all the well-known figures as well as much less well-known - Ophiotaurus anyone?
