John's review
If You Want to Write: A Book about Art, Independence and Spirit by Brenda Ueland
From four to two stars and I'm not yet half-way through. Ueland is increasingly annoying with quips like, "...these fool, will-worshiping people who live by maxims, lists of chores and the Ten Commandments..." Thank God Ghandi, Ben Franklin and MLK weren't called to be creative nonfiction writers. Ay carumba. Still to her credit, she has good points about artistic drive and temperment that remind me of my college years.
Four, three, two, one....BLAST OFF!! This is the first book I stopped reading without finishing in maybe 5 or 6 years. She touts love! art! beauty! yet has so much disdain for most of the world's population. Boring.
