did not like it
bookshelves: ditched

I would give this book "0" stars if the system allowed. I didn't even finish it (hence, the "ditched" tag), which is very rare for me.

I love sci-fi, I like the two authors, and I hated this book. It was about a sci-fi writer who, while pretending to be threatening to kill himself at a sci-fi/fantasy convention, actually falls out the window and dies. He wakes up in the "vestibule of hell" and has to find his way through.

So many writers have tried to re-do Dante's Inferno, or have stolen parts of it, and most of us are sick of that. Dante did a fine job: leave it alone! But somehow this book ended up on my booklist and in my mailbox, and given the authors, I thought they might do something original and thought-provoking with the theme. So NOT! I'm not even convinced they did the writing - it lacked Niven's wit and Pournelle's droning philosophical overtones. Can publishers put famous writers' names on a book they didn't write????
