I enjoyed this book although it is very dark. The torture the boys endure as they are forced into drawing out the magic within them is very real. I am not sure how I feel about how they resolved their problem at the end of the book. Sadima has no memory of her past. She grows and develops as a person as she struggles to find herself. I would have liked to see some resolution in the second book.
