a classic anthropological text that showed anthropologists that you have to look at history and context to under stand current culture, economics and interconnections.

a great book if any one is interested in the history of globalization, power, class and production.

Nophoto-m-25x33 There are probably similar books about tobacco. I think tobacco was practically synonymous with money at one point. Both are drugs, although sugar like Heroin is a much purer drug than tobacco. Power is an easy word to say, but when we look at which drugs are legal vs illegal, especially in relation to the actual harm that they cause, and the consequences, especially for young Black males in the USA, it becomes apparent that Power itself is a highly intoxicating drug, and one could almost say: "History is only the story of this drug (power)", although of course that would be an over simplification, I believe it makes an important point. There are books available on the drug nature of sugar. Also there are a few books on the drug trade and the CIA, which tell another side of the story.
