** spoiler alert ** What I love about Sarah Dessen: a sweet, quiet girl damaged by clueless parents meets a dark, mysterious boy who has encountered more than his own share of trouble. Together they quietly help each other get to the other side of the problem, in this case, by spending nights together doing all the things Auden has missed out on growing up. During normal waking hours, Auden develops girl friendships, another essential element that has been missing from her life. By the end of the story, even her parents come around to grasp their own "second chances."

Whereas other authors simply keep parents and friends on the fringe and concentrate on the romance, Dessen makes it look deceptively simple to weave all the elements together. I hope she keeps 'em coming!!
