Thank you, Haifa, for gifting me with so much during my recent visit with you and your family in Jordan including this book as I left so I would better understand your Palestinian roots, especially those of your mother and her family. I found Shehadeh's profound way of sharing his paths, his passion and his ultimate frustration and sense of loss of his hills, his peoples' hills an incredible and heartbreaking read. The old Indian saying about not being able to judge another until you have walked a mile in their moccasins rings more true with this book than most. Thank you, Raja, for taking me with you on your walks and helping me understand your reality and perspective in a way no Oslo Accord or news report could ever do.
