I lost something here by not reading this very quickly. I put it aside for a week or two, and while I still enjoyed the book, I probably missed some of the more subtle aspects as a result. Hemon is very talented, though, and I plan on reading more of his work.

I was worried this book would be too much like Everything Is Illuminated, another novel with a dual plotline--one set in contemporary times and one set in the past. The two novels do share some themes: friendship, immigrant experience, war experience, and storytelling as a means of processing those traumas, but The Lazarus Project seemed to have some extra weight and complexity. EII was somewhat more glib in its use of humor, I think.
