Nophoto-f-25x33 Yeah. I read this in high school. It remains one of my very favorite books ever. Brilliant, brilliant stuff--so beautiful.

Nophoto-f-25x33 I've just been thinking I'd like to read some more Hesse. It's been a few years. Yes, very beautiful!

Nophoto-f-25x33 I read Steppenwolf in high school also (I had an English teacher who was very into Hesse and kept recommending his books to me). That was not so fun. It sent me into a depression. I picked it up again last summer and read it again. Still not a joyful read (as Narcissus and Goldmund in many ways was--despite some violent and anguished stuff); but fascinating. It was a different experience to read it as an adult. I don't recommend it at all for 16-year-olds. LOL.
