I am not really impressed with this one, compared to Graceling. Actually, in some ways I'm disappointed by both the similarity and difference between the two companion novels.

The main character, Fire, was not half as engaging or original as Katsa. She seemed to lack something - strength, energy, something. The supporting characters were all much more interest-grabbing, especially Brigan, Nash, and Cansrel. I would love to see an artist's rendering of Cansrel. But Fire herself is more boring/annoying/weak than I would expect from this author. The most direct connection between Fire and Graceling (Leck) felt shoe-horned in there.

The book definitely had some terrific, amusing moments and is worth reading, but I'm hoping the next book set in this world will be better.
