Ibsen is hardly cheerful, his stories involve seriousd queries about the society he lived in and focused on inherited moral degeneration ie: child has immoral parent thus they grow up to be immoral or physically and mentally stunted. But if you like that sort of thing (and I do) then these plays are good.
