I had so much hope to like this book but was left sorely disappointed. The love between Jim and Doyler is both sweet and turbulent. In between them is McMurrough who adds an interesting dynamic in their relationship.

Still I found the regional references, historical context and dialect very difficult get into. The author also has an unusual and often annoying style of introducing some characters cryptically at the beginning of each chapter.
