Its 1969. James Bond has just turned 45. Where does a man of his stature celebrate and with whom you may ask??? Well the famous Dorchester Hotel of course! BUT a lonely man he is. Celebrating by himself. Although, it’s so typical of Bond to be allured by a seductive woman…this time, however, there’s an urgent agenda for 007, and he must bid adieu, and race to Zanzarium (African nation) to infiltrate and end the civil war. So much to do, and so little time! For the most part, I did enjoy Bond’s new adventure, but ehhhh he didn’t really pull any tricks this time around. He nonchalantly wiggles his way in, and instead of mystifying me with his espionage trickery, he falls short...super short. It just didn’t feel very Bond-ish, I guess. I’ve been an avid reader of the James Bond series, and thank you Ian Fleming for creating such a magnificent character, but I didn’t revel in William Boyd’s interpretation. Granted, he is an exceptional story-teller, but this Bond book needed more sass!
