Shellie (Layers of Thought) I head a lot of good things about this one - It will be interesting to see why you did not rate it higher.

Emilie thanks shellie. i'll try to do that tomorrow. and i am happy i read it. i had a hard time rating it...it's between a 3 and a 4. i do recommend it, still.

Shellie (Layers of Thought) I have been there too. Like a 5 star I rated last year. But now I am glad I did since I still think about the book. I second guess myself constantly.

I have been pondering about this rating system, and its tough. But what else can we do? A lot of people just don't have time to read long reviews....

Emilie yes, i agree that the rating system is difficult. and 3 stars (or 4 stars) can end up meaning so many different things.

sometimes i end up changing my rating, if i find myself thinking about a book that i didn't think made such an impression on me. i think it's the ones that i love or hate that are the easiest to rate.

Shellie (Layers of Thought) Yes - that's an excellent point. I agree the ones you like or hate are easy to rate, and the 3/4 are tougher.

I was also thinking that there are different reasons why I give a book a certain rating. Even if I have two books which are rated the same they can be rated that way for so many different reasons.

Its funny you don't think about it until you've struggled over rating a book... it just isn't consistent...

Ah such problems ...lol

message 6: by Shane (new)

Shane I am glad to hear I am not the only one who struggles with the ratings. I don't think I am consistent with why I give some a 3 instead of a 4, and others a 4 instead of a 3. and yet, when I see how someone else has rated a book, I assume they did not struggle at all, and feel very strongly about their rating...
maybe I am over-thinking it :)

Shellie (Layers of Thought) Well put Shane :) - I love it when people articulate what I'm not sure I am thinking yet.

Emilie yes-i feel that way too, shane. i'm quite sure i'm over thinking it. i guess we can look at it as a sign of our passion for books, rather then a sign of something else...(smiles)

message 9: by Nancy (new) - added it

Nancy I struggle with ratings too. I've been known to change a book's rating months after I read it.
