I think I would have really liked this if I hadn't just finished Someday This Pain Will Be Useful to You, which I really loved. Both books feature smart, neurotic boys in their senior years of high school, but I got the feeling that James (STPWBYTY) was really thoughtful and had reason for his unhappiness, while Shakespeare was just kind of whiny and created a lot of his own problems. Shakespeare gets this--he knows he paints himself the victim, but just because he admits it doesn't make it less annoying.
