He ends with musings on corporal vs. literaty mortality. One of the surprises: there are things other than madeleines and camomile tea that stimulate his memory. He is going to a party, but a musical performance is in progress when he arrives. The butler shows him to the library. He picks up a book. The binding reminds him of a certain book from his childhood. Eighty pages later, the music has ended and he joins the party.
