Beautifully written story of 3 characters struggling to make their way in a part of India near Nepal. Political struggle is the main backdrop as the story unfolds. The characters are fascinating particularly the Indian national who tries to make a living in NYC before returning to his homeland. The theme of loss is acute and profound and gives much food for thought...however I found the book a bit slow. I was not dying to pick it up, and these days a book really needs to compel me. That being said, I'm glad I completed it.
