A quirky and delightful little book that only reveals its true weirdness toward the end, this is simultaneously a great coming-of-age tale set in New York in the 70s as well as a tribute to Madeleine L'Engle and an exploration of the little magical connections between everything in life. I read a lot of children's books, and I really almost felt like cheering after finishing this one, because so few of them are this carefully crafted and awesome. Definitely my fave of our mock Newbery picks, which probably means it will not even come close to winning a Newbery =).
