bookshelves: mystery-suspense
Read from August 01 to 11, 2010

Got interested in this because of the Masterpiece Mystery TV miniseries starring Kenneth Branagh.
Unlike the miniseries, the book is dreary and flat. The writing style is like bad imitation Hemingway, with its short, choppy sentences and frequent use of passive voice. Disappointing.

Chris Maybe it's the translation?

I actually like the Swedish Wallander movies better.

Callista I did wonder about the translation; but I don't see why anyone would turn something into short, choppy sentences if the original text wasn't in that style.

Chris The reason why I asked was the one I read The Fifth Woman wasn't like that.

Callista Hhm...interesting.
